never go out with your ex's best friend, unless they are ex best friends. it's too complicated.

If all who are concerned are grown, no problems, although for the sake of friendship I make it known to to the best friend. Most likely they will not mind, unless they still had feelings for the ex, if so would leave that type situation alone and if the did not, simply make is known it known casually.
