Politics & media are to blame! I would not be offended by that question. There are some sad facts and misunderstandings played by the media, which has a huge effect on how people view Americans. My husband and I are very open minded and accepting of all cultures, races, religions out there. What we see is that most American movies show foreigners as stupid, poor, lower class than us, etc. For example, I had a friend that met when I was a freshman in college, and she was a Muslim and wore a head scarf; well she was treated as an alien because of the way she dress and she got many hurtful comments from strangers even when she went grocery shopping. She told me that in her country Americans where never treated like that, they were respected as the people of the country. I felt ashamed, but I also told her that not all people are the same, and I personally thought her scarf was very pretty. On the other hand, majority of the media, like many movies or TV shows make fun of and discriminated against, or show only the bad side not the good side of the different cultures. The Media shows one side of the story and it's not the other cultures' side, and soemtimes twists things or shows things that when the people of that country sees it, they see the lies! But then who am I to say that certain aspects of a certain culture are bad? Just because I don't agree or do it their way, doesn't mean they are bad, but sadly, that is not what the media in the U.S shows to its people. After all, I would say to those who hate Americans for a reason or another, that not all Americans are the same. Just like they have good people and bad people in their country, so do we!

I don't hate America or Americans but your President (along with mine, Blair) is systematically ruining the world. The idea that 'you are either with us or against us' as Dubya said is clearly an attempt to stifle free speech and democracy (as is stealing elections!!!). Most people don't dislike Americans, but your government is universally loathed and feared.

EDIT: I was trying to be nice and balanced in my response but seeing as I got thumbs down anyway, I'll be honest. I absolutely hate Americans. I think they're vile, ignorant and totally out of touch with reality. You think criticism equals jealousy!!! I live in London, England. Why would I be jealous? U.K isn't exactly a poor country now is it? Oh sorry, you wouldn't know because you believe there is no other country but America!!! You go round the world killing people who have done NOTHING to you and then have the audacity to whine that you are not liked. Sick, just sick. Give me all the thumbs down you like. You yanks like reporting people too don't you? Feel free. You'll still be scum.

People hate America and Americans because "the world community has been sadly disappointed" that the "U.S. turns (a) blind eye to developing nations' needs" and arrogantly walked out on the U.N. - sponsored international conference on racism in South Africa. The U.S. position was: either my way or the highway.

More specifically, people hate America and Americans because of America's policy when it comes to the liberation, interests and well-being of non-European people. People hate America because its policy does not reflect real democracy, equality and respect for all human life and dignity.

People hate America and Americans because America's foreign policy is totally devoid of the notion that ALL people have "the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and that no nation, however, big or small, has the God-given right to determine who should be eligible for those rights or freedoms.

America seems to be "out of step" with global reality and the aspirations of oppressed peoples in this new millennium.

i hate to burst your bubble, but it really has nothing to do w/ jealousy (TRUST ME ON THIS).

and if YOU ever go to a foreign country and watch the way American tourists act, you wouldnt even bother asking this question.

its because unfortunately its the stupid rich snobs of this country who go to foreign places, act like idiots, and the next thing you know the whole world hates all Americans.

im srry, but the only ppl you can blame are the american idiots who flunk through high school and never bother to open up a history book or learn basic etiquette.

People hate in general because they don't want to take responsibility for their own feelings and for getting what they want in this life. It's much easier to be a victim and blame others. It's the human way. Man spends his life trying to escape responsibility. Because the US is a super power, it's just an easy target. It's easy to blame the US. If people looked inward and started to go after what they wanted and created the world they want rather than complain about it, the world would be a very different place. But I don't ever expect this to happen. People would rather be a victim than someone who makes their own happiness for themselves given the conditions that they have.

Some of the answers to that particualr question were negative and some were positive. It is unrealistic to think that everybody is going to like Americans or the people of any othe country for that matter.

Why do Americans hate other Americans? People should stop hating, but I suppose we will never live in a perfect world. Best of luck to you.

well like we all know....there are many different peoples in the different .........which have different way of thinkin.....so they think differently and just hate and dont like places for what they see without noticing how would a person be inside that country if he or she looks it that way....we all pretty much have these kinda thoughts about different people and communities...like we hate osama and different people who we say we are in war with like...the people who wanna harm u.s we hate em .even we curse em...so its kinda same way.....but i dont think there is a very strong and bold reason of people hating americans...but i believe there might be something wrong ....or not correct...so thats why people might not have good thought about us...
