Twelfth Night is when all Christmas Decorations should be removed so as not to bring bad luck upon the home. If decorations are not removed on Twelfth Night, they should stay up all year.
In some countries, the Twelfth Night marks the start of the Carnival season, which lasts through Mardi Gras. In some places such as New Orleans, Louisiana, the night of January 6 with the first Carnival celebrations is called Twelfth Night. In some places, Twelfth Night celebrations include food traditions such as the king cake or tortell./

I take my Christmas decorations down the day before New Years, and that is only because my husband wants the couch in sight of the plasma tv so he can watch the football games. It always makes me sad and I just love keeping the holiday going for as long as I can. But I am not like my neighbor across the street who keeps her wreath on the front door and santa on the roof til the end of March.

We have a good time Ukrainian Christmas on the two the Gregorian and Julian calendars, so we plan it so the tree lasts til a minimum of January 7, and save the different decorations around til a minimum of the 18th - eve of Epiphany.
