Lettuce and other vegetables such as carrtos will be happily taken by adult turtles. Younger turtles are mostly carnivorous so you can feed it bits of ham and other meat. However, feeding meat will make the water VERY oily. It's best to rinse the meat under the faucet to get rid of the oils first.
Hope this helps!

Red-ears eat about the same thing most fish eat- small fish, bugs, worms, arthropods, shrimp, etc. Young Red-ears do not eat veggies and most human fish, etc. is either pretty processed, or too oily, or too dead.
You can feed them high-quality pellets for about 25-40% of the diet, but for a healthy turtle you should offer fresh or frozen/thawed 'turtle food'.
If providing the right diet is a problem, you may want to think about a different pet.

I have two sliders. They are two years old and as a rule I really only feed them the turtle sticks. Mine seem to really like lettuce also. We do get them feeder goldfish, but they don't have any real nutritional value. Hope that helps.

I gave my exboyfriend a red-eared slider turtle when it was no bigger than a silver dollar. He fed it a strict diet of only turtle food and it grew to be HUGE! I wonder if it's still alive...

Romain lettuce is good, start feeding it to them early so they get used to eating it. Mine are only 1.5 inches and they love lettuce. Try feeder guppies and rosies. DO NOT feed goldfish, there very fatty and have alot of bones in them. Dont feed them ham either. you can cook some shrimp and chicken to give them, but only once in awhile. you should feed lettuce and other veggies everyday and pellets every other or every couple days. if they get to much protein they can get a pyrimid shell and shell curing , you dont want that
