Nintendo's GameCube and wii have the most family friendly games. The other systems aren't really geared towards children, so the majority of the games are too violent or too "grown up" for a children. Depending on the child, the V-Smile system (ages 3-8) is an awesome alternative, along with the Leapfrog systems.

All systems are fine for kids, but the Nintendo Wii is going to have more games that target younger ages.

No.
When I was growing up, video games were limited. We had an Atari, and that was it. It was a once a month experience, if that.
We didn't have DVD players in our cars. We didn't depend on the TV to teach us how to spell and read.
Our parents interacted with us.
My son is 14 months. My husband and I have agreed to NEVER rely on the television or video games to teach our kids when we could be teaching them. WE are the parents, not technology.
My sister-in-law has a husband who is addicted to Xbox. Their marriage is falling apart--he leaves her for days on end to play Xbox. That IS his life. She knew it when she got into the relationship, and now she has to deal with it.

I certainly don't. In my opinion, XBOX 360 and Playstations are far too advanced for most small children. (children under 7) They require cd style disks and they scratch easily.
