Ok, I know this will probably tick off a lot of people, but i just don't get his appeal - aside from Forrest Gump and Philadelphia.

Joe an the Volcano.
Come on now, give him his credit. The guy went from being a moron on Bosom Buddies, to being Alex Keaton's drunk Uncle, to many great movies: Road to Perdition, Saving Private Ryan, Castaway, Gump, etc. Not to mention a CULT CLASSIC MAzes and Monsters.

Worst film ever made in general starring Tom Hanks was Mazes and Monsters

"Joe Versus the Volcano" and "The Man With One Red Shoe" were both stink-a-roos! You might like "Big" or "The Green Mile." Those films were well done.
Sam is right. "The Terminal' was not as great as many claimed.

No doubt about it You've got Mail. Special runner up is "The Bonfire of The Vanities" for the diservice it did to such a tremendous book.

Volunteers was NOT good!!!
His appeal is that he is an average looking man with very good & very broad acting ability.
There are WAY TOO MANY actors & actresses who can NOT act a single bit, but people absolutely love them because they THINK they are gorgeous or beautiful. Looks do NOT mean you can act......

I love Tom Hanks, but I thought The Terminal was absolute crap. I know the true story it was based off of, and it warped it into something that wasn't even interesting!

Have you seen his movie, "Big"? It is FANTASTIC.

I thought 'Da Vinci Code' and 'Sleepless in Seattle' both stank, but 'Forrest Gump' and 'The Green Mile' were terrific.

~EDIT~
Oh yeah, I forgot about 'You've Got Mail.' Ick.
