Even just with a small group, i'm totally nervous and my lips get all dry.

I am hoping to get to make a speech on my Graduation Day, but I can't if i'm going to be to nervous and shy! What can I do to just be my self and not worry about talking in front of people?

Though classes and such teach a lot of "tricks" to public speaking (even the underwear thing), I have always believed that the key to good public speaking is to simply know what it is your talking about. If you are considering a graduation speech, just know what it is you want to say and practice running it through your head and out loud. Have an outline prepared (or notecards) with key points that you want to get across. Know your subject and what you what to say as best you can and the talking part will be easy.

It surely takes artwork. I also struggled with this in intense college and it change into brought some little % bump in the direction of my getting the CIM, yet I did get it finally. when I were given into college I had to take a rhetoric classification of a few kind so i wanting to %. the only I feared maximum, public speaking. It change into puzzling yet no longer in straight forward words did it get a lot less puzzling with practice despite the indisputable fact that it even were given a lot less puzzling at the same time as i realized how frightened human beings were in the classification too. As a part note, it will be diverse which include your classification yet maximum oral tests are a million on a million. a large style of the time you get a scheduled appointment to satisfy which include your prof and answer questions. If it change into finished in a classification placing it would want to enable for too many "loose riders."

Its very difficult for some people at first. Like everything else
the more you do it, the easier it gets. If you have the chance
take a speech class before graduating, this would help immensly.

I used to have a similar issue with being nervous and frankly, getting up and doing it was what helped me clear the challenge.

Think about all the successful outcomes that can happen thanks to you giving your speech; the adoration of your family and friends?

The other thing, is try to do middle steps first... don't go from whispering to your friends in the corner up to standing on stage overnight. Find larger and larger groupings to speak first. Stand up at your family's Christmas and give a toast... Ask a teacher for extra credit to do a verbal report, etc... Baby steps.

Good luck!

I took a speech class in college and it actually helped me out a lot. I still get nervous at times but not as bad as I used to. Just make notecards for yourself. Don't read them when giving the speech but have them incase you forget something and want to glance down. Just takea deep breath before saying anything and gather your thoughts before opening your mouth.

I just always pretend everyone I'm speaking to is stark naked. No really, this works. I work in Public Relations for a major ad agency in Texas and so I'm required to answer press conference questions and most answers are Impromtu, so I just imagine them naked and it helps level the playing field, because they would be just as if not more nervous and embarassed than you are!
