Our President is crystal clear, it's to find those weapons of mass destruction because Saddam was perched to annihilate the world. Topple Saddam, magically materialize a democracy, be welcomed as liberators and leave once the garden of paradise was completed for the people of Iraq...no wait I forgot, we are also going to fight the terrorists over there so we don't have to fight them over here. If only those pesky, in the last stages of resistance insurgents hadn't started making trouble. Not to worry, the not so civil war has come to our President's rescue. The violence is at such a level, we can now look at Iraq and say, hey, you better do something to fix your baby, or we're out of here. We stirred the crap thoroughly, it stinks real good, and we're leaving, bye.

The primary goal was to remove Saddam. The next it is to help the elected government stabilize and bring its own security forces up to the job of supporting the sovereignty of the government and keeping order. In Iraq there are forces which need balancing. There are foreign and domestic elements trying to force a full out civil war. Iraq and the entire region have a very long history of warring factions. That is unlikely to change soon.
I hope that after this is said and done, people in the region will have a broader opportunity in types of government, and better life for regular people, not just the rulers.

Even at this minute I have never understand what Bush's goal is in Iraq. One thing is for sure, if one of his goals in Iraq is to install a democratic government, Bush is dreaming. Any study of Islam and Muslim will show that western democracy will never happen. The Islamic religion will not tolerate western type democracy because of its strict discipline, unlike the Christian religion which is more pragmatic.

There is no victory anymore. Iraq doesn't want to be a democracy. We should move our troops. Move some to protect the Kurds. Move some to protect the oil pipeline. Move some to protect the border to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and then let the Shiites and the Sunnis decide who will run their country. President Bush and the United States had very noble intentions but the Iraqi people don't want to stand up for themselves. They are going to have to before it's all over with.

dont tell the news but the war in iraq was won in about three weeks. it is now a matter of police work and is not that much our business but it would be unfair to leave them in a condition unable to fight terrorists when we leave, so our goal is to make sure they can.

VICTORY my comrade!
Famous Military Leaders: Mcarthur Quotes
A better world shall emerge based on faith and understanding.
Famous Military Leaders: Mcarthur Quotes
A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent.
Victory: Mcarthur Quotes
In war there is no substitute for victory.
Overcoming Failure: Mcarthur Quotes
It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.
Leadership: Mcarthur Quotes
There is no substitute for victory.
Famous Military Leaders: Mcarthur Quotes
To dilute the will to win is to destroy the purpose of the game.
We need to go in it for the long haul. We cannot allow our brothers to have died in vain for us! They died for us, for our safety the least we can give them is our backing.

At any point our decisions should be made on the best possible realistic outcome. It seems like Bush has moved toward wishful thinking on this one.
