What to do when you offer to help a friend make some money to pay their bills by letting them do some work for you or run errands and then maybe 2 weeks later they show up to do the work? And this happens several times. By then you either did it yourself or found someone else to do it. Then the friend gets mad because you let someone else do the work.

There is an old quote that I love: "No good deed goes unpunished"! It is so true.
I commend you on what you were trying to do. First off, I am sure you didn't want to make your friend feel like you were trying to pity him by just offering him money and you never know how people react when you do offer them money. So instead you offer them legitimate work and they have the nerve NOT to show up. Then they have the nerve to get mad at you for getting someone else to do the job. Go figure???
I would remind them that they were the first person you asked. I would also remind them, that just like any job, being responsible and reliable is very important to obtain the job. Maybe that's the reason the person is not working in the first place.
Anyway, you sound like a great person and really smart person too. Don't worry about it, you did the right thing.
Good Luck

pay after the job is finished. soon they will get the picture no bills are paid until they work. also set a time boundary, this must be finished by tomorrow or the weekend to get paid, otherwise i WILL find someone else. you need really clear boundaries right now he is taking advantage of you.

Explain to your friend that if they were more prompt, maybe they would not be in the position they currently are in. If you offer a job to help them out give them a time line to complete it. From their attitude towards doing the odd job, it is very evident that they are not responsible.

From now on, be specific as to when you need work done. If you haven't heard from them a day or two before, call them and ask if they are still interested, because you need it done and you want to give them "first dibbs" before you call someone in.

They're obviously a flake, tell them you tried your best to help them out but they didn't keep their side of the bargain, and now they'll have to figure it out on their own.

the only thing i can say to you is that you cant help someone who doesnt want to help themselves... opportunities dont last forever and they especially dont wait.
