I like to give my daughter a bath every night to kind of get into a routine but I'm afraid that it will dry out her skin. Any advice?

I am a mother (a proud mother at that ;] ) of a 6,4,and 2 year old. I was told on MANY occasions that they should only be bathed about once a week. That to me is gross. My children had baths every night and were fine. As a matter of fact, my children have always slept through the night and I think that a lot of it has to do with the fact that I have always had a routine set for them that included a nightly bath. I believe that it relaxes them and gets them ready for a good nights rest. Think how good you would sleep if all you had was one or two baths a week. Not very good!! Keep up with the baths and enjoy your new baby!!

As long as her skin isn't drying out I see no reason why not.

On the other hand, establishing a routine this young isn't really going to do much.

Also, usually a baby of that age doesn't really get dirty enough to warrent a bath once a day. So don't feel as though you HAVE to bathe her every day, unless you simply want to.

Just remember that a babies skin is thin (like elderly people), so changes that occur will happen quickly and severely. So just keep an eye out for dry skin, and if you see it, rub her in baby oil.

It's fine But can Be over drying Expecially In The winter..if you are going to Give her A bath everyday Use Gental Soap and Use Lots Of Baby Lotion On Her..Its Better to Give them a Bath Every Other day..But if you want to Everyday Thats Your choice..

Giving the baby a bath does not dry the skin of the baby. However see that the weather is just righ or it might catch cold. For cold days a songe bath is okay.

I used to do it with my boy since he was about 2 weeks old, and had no problems! I think establishing a routine is really good, and believe it or not, my boy has been sleeping through the night since 3 weeks old! (I NEVER left him crying!)

50/50 cream is really good, just don't put pjs on her that you are sorry for! And take care because it is a bit slippery!

Aah... 6 weeks... what a precious new little life...treasure every second of it! Good luck, and congratulations!

This will dehydrate her skin. Make sure you are using lots of of moisturisers. You don't need to bathe a baby every day- they don't do anything to get dirty.
You can still have a routine without the bath :)

if you are using a soap product more than every three days it will dry a baby's skin (baby's don't get that dirty and soap washes away the natural oils) supplementing baby's natural oils with mineral oil or lotion is also not recommended because it exposes your baby's skin to chemicals and interferes with vitamin absorption

if you want to use a bath as a night time ritual to relax her go for it, just skip the soap and use plain water

No, but it is not necessary. Babies mostly eat and sleep at this age, so they dont get very dirty. I bathe my 10 week old baby every other day and it works out well. When you do bathe your baby, make sure to clean her neck well. There are lots of folds there, and when she eats, sometimes milk will get trapped between those folds.

A 6 wk old baby doesnt need a bath everyday but if you do just use a gentle cleanser and moisturizing lotion.
