The white spots sound like ich, which is a protozan parasite. It burrows under your fish's scales, feeds off of tissue, and those white spots you see are the cysts formed by the betta's body in an effort to keep the parasite out.
Is this what it looks like? http://www.fishjunkies.com/images/ich1.jpg
Use salt to treat this. Don't use the ich meds from the petstore, they do more harm than good and frequently kill infected fish. Use 1.5 tsp per gallon of water of AQUARIUM salt (be sure to disolve it in some dechlorinator water, first).

For the fungus, treat with Maracyn-2.

If he dies, empty the tank, let it dry and wash it out with salted hot water. Then let it dry for a coupl weeks.

That happened to both my fish the first fish died of fungus and then i got a new fish and put it in the same tank i don't think that you can cure it and i recommend if you get a new fish don't put it in the same tank because it spreads and i watched it out really good so don't risk it and my second fish only lasted for three days and the fungus doesn't come off well at least it didn't for me

sounds like your fish as Ich and fungus. Was he injured? There is treatment for Ich but it sounds pretty advanced in your fish. You can go to a pet store or even Walmart for the medicine.

If he dies, you can easily clean your tank with a tiny drop of bleach in your water. Then clean again with a mild detergent and rinse very very well.

i think it is ick, u should get ick remover u could prob, get it at any pet store, fact i know it's ick, trust me i know what ick is cause i bought a 20.00 fish 2 days later it dies cause of ick! But all u have to really do is just put some ick remover in the tank read back to see how many drops for how many gallons and then put it in, but if u get some ick remover i really don't think it will cure ur fish cause well i think ur fish is to late into the desease, sorry it might work mabey, well good luck

They don't live forever and if you've had him for a long time then this might be it. Go to the pet store though and see if they have something to kill the fungus.

i agree with what ZOE said...she basically summed it all up...its def ick...you shouldnt reuse that jar or container for another fish... but if the spots are furry looking then it might be fungus...good luck with everything

try to treat him as soon as possible the longer you wait the worse he's gonna get.

white speckles that look like salt? ick. fungus, it it cottony? I can't really tell because you don't go into too much detail, so you should check this site out, it's very helpful, has pictures examples of each diesease and how to treat it. good luck!

You put him in a jar? Is there a filter in the jar? Has that water turned? Go get some meds! For the both of you!

Call the pet store. He has a fungus. There is medication for that.

i would go to your veterinarian right away, with the fish in the fish bowl. possibly climate change due to global warming (is my hypothesis). i notice people where i live (just a few) are getting fungus on them, perhaps because it is warm out and it is supposed to be snowing.
