i became anemic during both pregnancies (31 weeks with second). I have been taking iron supplements for a few weeks and I'm still super tired. For me it doesn't make a difference. Talk to your doctor. You don't want to take supplements you don't really need.

i was tired too i asked my doctor about what i should do and he told me to take iron supplements ( which yes can constipate you ) but not every one has a problem with constipation when takin extra iron..... but if the extra iron does back you up you can take vitamin B complex ( this info came from my doc as well)

so i take my prenatal vitamin 2 iron pills (which are real small) and 1 vitamin B complex..

and also my doc told me you can not overdose on iron

LOL

It might, but beware: many people suffer from stomach upset when taking iron supplements. You're probably better off getting additional iron from natural foods like red meat or spinach.

Adding exercise to your daily routine helps, too.

If you are iron deficient and want to take iron supplements, then get them from the chemist. The supermarket sells only the RDI of iron, but the chemist is about 80x strtength.

I took an iron supplement when I was preggers with my son for about it week. It backed me up, if you catch my drift so I stopped. I would just eat foods with more iron in it.

How far along are you? Extreme tiredness is so normal in early pregnancy -- it was the first clue I had when I was expecting my oldest!

Check with your doctor about the iron supplements :-)

u should really talk to your doctor. they have me taking iron because i am anemic. my doctor also decided to give me B12 to help with my low energy. i would really suggest talking with your doctor before taking anything because it could be normal pregnancy exhaustion. and i was told that too much iron isnt a good thing.

oh, if u are worried about constipation with iron, they told me to drink a glass of OJ with it because it helps absorb it into your body. they also had me taking Dulcolax stool softener (not LAXATIVES...STOOL SOFTENERS!!!!) now that i am 37 weeks i hardly need to take those anymore.

Prenatal vitamins are great for feeling tired and won't constipate you. Great for hair too.
