Do they hang out at the top or bottom of the tank or just any where I put baby grass to hide in

They will out anywhere that they feel safe - bottom, middle or top. However, they are mid to top dwellers, so provide some floating plants for them, such as amazon frogbit or water sprite, or a floating ball of naja/guppy grass.

Well... they hide between the leaves of the plants, preferring the very dense leaves. In my tank i have some plants floating on the surface, my fries are hiding there all the time.
Sometimes i find fries in the filter or hiding behind bigger stones, but that is not a safe place.
If you want to keep fries alive you need very dense vegetation or to move them in a separate tank after birth or even before, moving the pregnant female in a separate tank, and after birth put her back, otherwise eats its own fries.

I watched my pregnant fish several times: when a female gives birth, the fry, looking like a small ball, is always sinking few inches first, them it is straightening out and swims upwards, trying to hide. The swordtail fries sometimes sink a longer distance and sometimes stay at the bottom for a short time. (not a very good strategy!)

Zoe is making me jealous. She said it.. They go everywhere and like to hide. Or so some people claim. From personal experience baby fish like mollies in specific have a taste for the stress coat of enzymes around their parents and tend to mob them to death if they're removed then later introduced back into the tank with their parents.

This can account for parents dying, and the success rate I've had breeding molly fish suggests its honestly better to just leave them where they are born. (Personal tip :/)

Generally they hide till they get bigger. Where they hide depends on where there is to hide.
