If this were true, I guess we all are getting a little dumber each day...with the advent of television and mindless books replacing the forms of true education, this statement is not as absurd as it seems.

I would say that the average intelligence would remain the same. Intelligence isn't really an amount like water. If it were and the amount stayed the same, we would be half as smart each time the population doubled. So, I don't agree.
