Her cheeks are puffed out and she hasn't moved from the same spot in her cage for over two hours. She did eat some lettuce but that's it. She was acting just fine last night, squeaking and popcorning around, but now i'm wondering if it might be a kidney infection or something. I've had lots of guinea pigs growing up and they never acted that way. Has anybody else's guinea pig ever acted that way and know what it is?

If there were and infection, there would be crusting around her eyes. If it was a bronchial, sinus, or a cold, she would have crusting on the eyes and nose. With out seeing the piggie I wouldn't even make a guess. It's not unusual for one to sit that long while sleeping. Some don't close their eyes while sleeping.

Sorry can't do anything thing without seeing the piggie, and knowing completely about her diet and living conditions. Guinea pig health is very complex, that's why it takes an everyday effort to keep them healthy. Mine are all over 6 years old now. A qualified exotic pet vet needs to run a blood and urine test.

jrd050101 -cavies do NOT hibernate! Most small animals do not hibernate.

Sounds like your pig is showing signs of being lethargic, which is a bad sign... cavies are good at hiding illnesses, until the very last, when you finally notice they are sick, and that is usually when they are the sickest.

You need to find a emergency vet and take her there. Something bad could be up, and cavies are very delicate little critters.

What area do you live in? Go to www.guinealynx.info -It has great medical information for cavies. Water down some pellets, and use a spoon, and try to feed her, or give her some lettuce with some Vitamin C crystals on it (can get at a health food store, like Trader Joes, etc). If she hasn't been eating for awhile, get her to the vet ASAP! When they don't eat, that's a bad sign!

I have seen this type of behaviour before and I am sorry to say that it probably means she is very unwell. Get her out and check whether she is suffering from diarrhoea. If she is, your only option is to take her to a vet which is open and ask for her to be rehydrated. Guinea pigs often suffer from diarrhoea if they are given too much or the wrong sort of green/fresh food (but not usually from grass). They go into shock if they become dehydrated. Check also whether she is cold, as this will indicate shock. I have had two guinea pigs successfully rehydrated, but have lost at least three to diarrhoea which occurred overnight when I was of course not around.
This is only my opinion based upon my experience, I am not a vet.
You should only feed dark leaved lettuce to guineas. Lettuces that are light such as iceberg can cause colic.

Know that you may not want to hear what I have written, but hope it helps.

My piggie had a urinary tract infection, but we had to take him to the animal emergency clinic. Piggies fade fast when sick, so I seriously recommending getting immediate medical attention by calling the nearest animal hospital, make sure they treat exotics. Your vet should have an emergency contact number that will tell you what to do in an emergency, you may be able to have him or her paged, but seriously if you want to save your pig you need to take care of this right away.

If your house is colder thatn normal, she may be getting ready to try to hibernate. I had a hamster that went into hibernation once and I thought he was dead, until I went to bury him and he politely objected ;)
