Your neighbor is acting irrational, you are unsure what the problem is..He kicks your door down, is visably upset, and tells you he is going to kill you and your family..You see him walk to his truck where there is a shotgun visable in the rear window on a gun rack. Your kids are playing at the park one block away..you have a gun and know how to use it....you have no doubt in your mind that he will use the gun..he is 30 feet away from you...What would you do...would you shoot him?..If so, at what point? would you wait for him to reach the truck? open the trucks door? Start his engine? ..

If he is threatening to kill me AND my family, why would he tell me, and then leave to kill the family first. Logically, I would already be dead.
BUT in this hypothetical situation, I would shoot him before he left my property (in GA the law says you can kill them w/o a preemptive strike if you are afraid for your life).

You had an opportunity to shoot when he kicked in the door (assuming you felt your life was in danger). You lost that opportunity when he turned to go to his truck. Your next opportunity will be when he has the gun in hand and threatens you or your family.

and like the NYPD I would shoot the sucker 50 times and have a clip that holds 50 rounds

I would shoot him as soon as he reached for the gun. I would try to call the police first but he would not leave with out a vehicle with lights on top (ambulance or cop).

i would shoot him in the head as soon as i see him grab his gun b/c he obviously doesn't care about if life if he is mad enough to kill someone else's family so i will take his life first

You can't use deadly force until there is an imminent threat. That wouldn't exist until he points the gun at you or your family.

If you believed it was his intention to get his gun and come back to shoot you, then why would he be starting his engine?
