And if you tried to explain it to human resources did they tell you there was nothing they could do? This happened to me about 10 years ago and the solution at that time was the principal at the school where I was teaching seemed to tell the male staff to stay away from me. I was just wondering if this was still going on.

Yes. I suppose if I spoke up, I could have protected myself better. Instead, I buried myself in my school work, and later I kept my head down and worked harder at work. It is so easy to say that I somehow led these men on, but honestly I didn't. It seemed that ignoring them made the problems worse.

I had problems with professors, one a department director (so what am I going to do?) who offered to pass me on classes if I . . . . Ugh. Then he had the audacity to ruin my internships and reputation when I tried to avoid him and his cronies.

I don't remember the times at other jobs when this has happened to me, but it usually culminates with the wife, or co-workers angry with me. I don't know what I do. I dress in loose clothes, and I am mostly shy. I didn't need the attention. I am usually in a committed relationship. It's even embarrassing to write about those rotten days.

What one person considers "sexual harassment" might not be so to another. This term is largely undefined. If a person is bothering you, tell him. Being clear and direct usually works. Often, the person is clueless. If he is doing this...or this is systemic, and you must go the legal route, proof is needed. In some cases. But it is good to speak up before i gets totally out of hand. It is dangerous but necessary. Hope you won't let whatever happened to you bother you another 10 years. Time to move on. Eyes wide open. But heart open, too.

Of course its still going on. It's gone throughout history and will continue to do so as long as men and women are different sexes.
