Go to control panel and security settings, turn off the firewall.

in windows XP right click on the network connection icon in the taskbar and select change windows firewall settings.
If you have a third party firewall (zonealarm etc) there is usually an icon for that in the taskbar, again clicking on that should allow you to change the settings, alternatively uninstall any firewall programs (though I wouldn't suggest having no firewall.)
If you have a router and want to disable the firewall you would have to log in to the router settings.
If it is just to let a specific program access to the internet then you can find out what port it uses and just open that port. usually easy enough to find by doing a web search for "the programs name" and "port" or "portforward"

What kind of firewal< each has it's own way. Windows firewaall can be found in control panel, many 3rd party you can right click the Icon on your task bar and click exit or disable

look at the icons at the bottom right of your screen, right click on the virus protection you have, put your mouse pointer where it says personal firewall, and it will open another little flap, click on disable, then when the window pops up, click yes

They disable differently. If you have an icon near the clock, right clk it and see if you can do it from there.
