The density increases as you go down a group.
This is due to the increased concentration of protons in the nucleus and increased attraction between the electrons and the protons. This (the attraction between protons and electrons) between makes the electron cloud come closer to the nucleus, thus reducing the volume.
Since density is mass over volume, and the molar mass of an element increases faster than its volume, the density is greater down a group. See this tool for every density.

I hope that helped :)

wow, do i ever sympathize with you taking chemistry.
i am 47 and in college. I had to take 2 levels of chemistry. i ended up having to take those classes twice each time. chemistry is extremely difficult.
going down the periodic table, the density of a element gets larger. density, if i remember correctly, is the space it occupies.
but i am going to go to the search enjine and find the answer for you, ok......
i will be right back. also, if some reason i dont find you again to tell you what I find out, there are great chemistry chat rooms that have been a great help for me.
forums.about.com
you can post questions there and check back when people answer those questions.

the density gets higher because the mass and the volume of the elements in the periodic table get higher as they go.

i will say with self belief they are going to settle for you. choose to be responsive to why? I handed grade 11 chemistry with a 50, I went for the Social worker application in college, and that they nonetheless frequent me. they do no longer verify out technology and Math, in basic terms English. believe me, you do no longer desire any technology or Math. it quite is all paper artwork, no longer attempting to be responsive to the way somebody's recommendations works. the human beings who're giving me a thumbs down are the those that have by no potential particularly taken the path. How humorous...pass examine it.

They have less mass and so the mass number is lessser. The Density is also less.

You should information here:
http://environmentalchemistry.com/yogi/periodic/density.html
Then compare with periodic table and see if you can correlate.
