Usually to upgrade laptop memory it is simply a case of removing a small panel on the botom and inserting the memory. This does not involve opening the whole case so I would imagine this would be alright. With a desktop PC you need to open the whole case which would almost definitely invalidate the warranty unless done by an approved technician.
If you contact Acer they may have an approved outlet in your area you can use or they could advise you about the terms of the warranty.
Acer site says this:
Parts not covered by the service
Damages due to negligence or careless use, incorrect maintenance, maintenance by unauthorised personnel, transport in unsuitable packaging, any cause not attributable to manufacturer’s defects and small damages such as scratches, scores, etc. derived from routine product use are excluded from service coverage.
The battery is excluded from the warranty extension service and maintain original warranty conditions ( 180 days ).
The warranty does not cover malfunctions due to viruses or system conflicts due to the installation of drivers or peripherals, data loss for any reason.

First - look at the warranty. It will tell you - even if it's buried in small print.
However, the general rule is that if the upgrades are generally considered to be 'user serviceable' i.e. they expect people to do it themselves, then the warranty isn't voided. If the hard disc literally slides out without using a screwdriver, then that would be a clue that it won't breach the warranty.
