i accidentally ripped a 20 in half getting it out of my bank it was a tottal accident. but i just wanna no if tapping it back together is illegal

No it is not illegal. The bank will even take it back and give you a new one if you want.

No you can tape it back together. It is perfectly legal.

The law states that 1/2 of the bill if required to be useable.

You can turn it into the bank and they should replace it.

No it is not illegal. Go ahead and tape it back together or just return the two parts to the bank and get another.

It is illegal to INTENTIONALLY destroy or deface money.
ACCIDENT is just that an accident -- not a crime.
Your action lacks necessary "Mens rea" to be a crime[1].
Practically you do not even have to tape it just take both pieces to your local bank and they will replace it for you.

Oddly enough, there is actually a procedure where you can exchange your ripped $20 bill for undamaged currency. I don't know if it is worth the effort, but you can read about the procedure at the link below.

on both sides your fine.

yes, it's legal. As long as the note isn't intentially defaced to render it unfit as currency.

NO, AND YOU CAN TAKE IT BACK TO THE BANK AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU A NEW ONE.
