Some are auctioned by the government but many end up being used by undercover cops so that they have cars that look like they belong to drug dealers (because those cars did belong to drug dealers).

For details on finding auctions try a site like http://www.gov-auctions.org/?OVRAW=government%20auctions%20of%20seized%20cars&OVKEY=government%20seized%20car%20auction&OVMTC=standard

Police Auctions. Most of them are not advertised to the public just to car dealers. Check the newspapers, once in a while they do post an ad.

The government will ask for bids..You may look for these in the Post Office or other Federal Buildings.in or in the press. Don't loose your time, people who usually go to these will offer lower bids than you. Also as they have the means to buy the whole lot of merchandise.
Sometimes as the bidders know each other they can help themselves in the bidding.which is unlawful but difficult to detect.

you know what I think is, that all these people that get busted for drugs and whatever and get their homes, cars, etc etc, the lawyers and Judges have first pick and gets them before the public gets a chance to purchase them, they resale them and make a profit, all others that don't have a wheel to stand on, are given to the tow company's and sold at auctions.
