Operating companies are very good at determining who owns mineral rights where they want to drill. The adage "don't call us, we'll call you" applies here. They will contact you for leasing privileges, so don't worry about it.

Is there any drilling going on in that area or any seismic operations? If they think there is something there , they will eventually come to you.I work for a permitting company for Anadarko Petroleum. They start leasing in an area when they know it's a hot spot and believe me, before it's over , everywhere in the states will be tested for oil and gas.Really it's better to wait and let them find out it's there and you can bargain with them and get more.I'm still kinda learning all this so don't write this in stone but it's kinda what I've learned.
