Some people like to dress up more than others - but these days you have alot of freedom. Basically the christening forms part of a normal church service, so the only no-nos, as with any religious building, is anything too skimpy or revealing - apart from that, as long as you are smart and comfortable, you can wear what you want. Some churches are more formal than others,- years ago (I remember looking at my christening photos) everyone wore hats - no need for that now - I would say, a smart dress or suit would be lovely - and generally when I have been to christenings as a godmother - and therefore a bit more visible - I have tried to wear something cheery - a pink linen next suit for example, for a girl - but really, there is nothing prescriptive -just remember what the occasion is - something joyful, and you can't go wrong! Have a great time!

I would suggest wearing the sort of thing you'd wear to a dress-up occasion like a wedding, but not formal wear. Black is not really appropriate, because that is generally considered to be a color of mourning, and a baby's christening is considered to be a happy occasion. A nice dress in a moderate color (as opposed to really bright colors) would be appropriate.

Well you can wear a jeans and a nice top fancied up with some not too extravagant jewellery and shoes with medium heels. In that way you would be casually elegant. I think a black dress sounds a bit more adult dinner party. If you do decide to to wear a dress I would go for the coloured one. Hope this help.

If they have not said how to dress then it is best to dress smartish - When we did it we asked for formal dress - colours were not important as long as people dressed nicely not casual but elegant.
So a dress is a great idea black or any other colour that suits you.

You're going to church, so dress respectfully. I would not wear jeans (contrary to what other people say). Not too formal, but not too casual either. It's a festive occasion, not a funeral. I would wear a color rather than black and nothing too revealing (nothing strappy or too short).

Dress sensible and sober is the way to go. It's a solemn occasion and it's befitting for the new child to be received into the family of Christ.
