I think it's a great idea for kids to have animals, and the sooner the better. People who grow up with animals are more compassionate.

You might be better off to get a young adult who's already housetrained and knows some commands, and is not as rambunctious as a puppy. Of course your child will not be old enough to do any caretaking for years, but he can watch and learn from you as you feed, water, and walk the dog. If you think you can handle a new dog and an infant, go for it! You should talk to your vet about the best way to introduce the dog to the household.

And you must NEVER leave a dog unsupervised with a young child, no matter what breed the dog is or how well the two get along.

Good luck!

That is a little young, a puppy maybe, but not a cat. They can do a lot of damage. Also check the breeds and get a people friendly dog. As it grows up with your son it will be protective of him, you just don't need one that will maul him.

Yes, possibly too soon with a puppy... You should really reconsider getting an adult dog that's calm and socialized well... However, a cat would be ok, as with a kitty.... A puppy may be ok if you train it really well...

I would wait until your son is 6-8 yrs of age. If you get a puppy then he will want the attention and if you don't give him the attetion he could turn on your son being he's getting attention since he' a newborn.

yes. The child will not really understand or build a relation to it, and it will just be more trouble to you. The dog will end up in the streets or in a shelter, or your life will be miserable. If you just wait for a couple of years, it will be great for all of you!

I personally don't think so. Just try to get a breed that tend to be very good with children. Your dog will love your child like if he were their own and will be protective of him.
