Give me an example if you have one.
My example is the name Persephone. For years I pronounced it as perse a phone. Well, then I learnt it was pronounced as:
per sef oh nee.
Another is Hermione which I called her moin. Well now I know it's her my oh nee.
Now I like both names.

My daughter is Isla. Pronounced as would pronounce Island. She gets Is-la or eyes-la all the time.
There are alot of gaelic names that are mispronounced like Niemh
It is actually pronounced Neeve or Sobhian wich is pronounced She-von.

What an interesting question! I guess Doris- I had often heard it pronounced Door-is rather than Dor-es. It's a pretty subtle difference, but the Door-is is harsh sounding, and the other way, very nice.

For years when I was a teen I thought Penelope was
Pen-a-LOPE !! LOL
I thought Chloe was pronounced with the CH sound not a K sound - hee hee and that it rymed with Low -LOL
I thought Xavier was X-a -Veer
And the Godess name Aphrodite - I thought was Afro-Dite !! LOL
Oh and I almost forgot
When Madonna named her Daughter Lourdes I thought it was pronounced LORDS - I thought Why would she name her daughter that -LOL

I like the name Erin, when I said it people would thought I said Aaron. I did not use Erin, I went with what I could pronounce.

When I read the Stephen when I was younger I pronouced it Step hen not Steven which is how I was used to seeing it.

Sean is kind of like that. When I was younger, I thought it was pronouced Seen not like Shawn. I still hate that name.
