I put up an artificial tree.Decorate it with all the the things my kids have ever made in school, and then if theres room I add ornaments. First though I put on white lights up the trunk. Then the colored lights go on .Garland not tinsel.

Artificial. You don't have to water it, you can keep it up as long as you want, it doesn't fall apart and leave needles all over the place. And you can leave the lights on all the time and it's not a fire hazard.
