It is merely a recreational activity, not a sport.
Same with darts, curling, snooker and pool.

It is most definitely a sport...at the PGA level, it requires, physical skill, mental toughness, and physical conditioning on a par with any other pro athlete. I understand that having a go at Pebble Beach doesn't require the extreme effort of, say, trying to block Joey Porter (bad analogy...everybody and their sister is having success blocking Porter these days...bitter? me? but I digress), keep Ben Wallace of the boards, or getting blasted into the boards by Chris Chelios. On the other hand, pro athletes will tell you that hitting a golf ball and getting it to go where you want it to go is one of the two hardest things to do in all of sports. (The other is trying to hit a baseball coming at you at 85-plus mph, and trying to decide how, or if it is going to curve at all.) So, yeah, it's not a physical sport, but it certainly is a sport.
