Today I went in for my first pre-natal appt. I should have been 9 weeks and 4 days counting from the first day of my last period, which was Sept. 25. The ultrasound showed I was only 5 weeks 4 days with gestational sac, yolk sac, and fetal pole that looked normal, yet no heart beat. The doc. sechuldeuled another appt. for next week. She said either my body absorbed the first pregnancy and I got pregnant again or the pregnancy isn't viable and I would have to go in on Friday and take some pill to get rid of the what’s there. My question is has this happened to anybody else? If I was 9 weeks and 4 days wouldn't there be some abnormality shown in the ultrasound? Is it possible my body absorbed the first pregnancy and I got pregnant again, not knowing? And If I go back for an ultrasound in 1 week will they see a heartbeat?
I'm so scared I was crying the entire time. I'm confused b/ since I found out I was pregnant in end of Oct. I have had all the symptoms.

Date can't be wrong, first blood test confirmed how far along I was.
I skipped my period in oct. so I took the test on oct. 27 and again on oct. 28 both came out positive. I scheduled a blood test to confirm the positive results the following week, it came back positive. So I know my dates for the 9 weeks and 4days is not off, b/c the doc told me that dates matched first day of my last period (sept.25) The only time I had sex in oct. was the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th. I didn't have sex again until mid Nov. And pregancy test came up positive in end of Oct.

That sounds pretty bizarre. I know it's not what you want to hear, but really only time will bring the answers to this one. The doctor has told you what she suspects, and you have another appointment next week to find out what is going on. This isn't something I am familiar with. I know that at 5 weeks you wouldn't see a heartbeat, but at 9, you would.

It doesn't sound to me like you got pregnant again because you know your dates, and that doesn't fit, which only leaves the other possibility. Don't despair yet, but prepare yourself for the possibility of bad news here. If this is the case, I'm really sorry. Hang in there and whatever happens, you'll get through it.

I really honestly wish you luck. I miscarried on Monday the 27th at 12 weeks. I went to the doctor during the 9t-10th week I was pregnant and they couldn't hear a heart beat. I miscarried the day I was suppose to go back to the doctor to hear the heartbeat. I didn't do what you did and I am confused at your problem like you are. Anything is possible though. You should hear a heart beat and maybe not depending on how far along you are. Usually you can only hear the heart beat during the 11th-13th week of pregnancy. I would just keep your appointments and don't stress out. However, if you feel lower back pain, severe cramping and slight bleeding go to the Emergency Room. Good luck and keep your hopes high. God will help you.

Sorry for what your going through...I went in to my doc at 12 1/2 weeks the end of september and my baby only measured at 9 1/2 weeks and there was no longer a heartbeat. I did however see the heartbeat at 6 weeks and 6 days pregnant. Sounds like to me that your doc was correct with her opinion of this pregnancy not being viable..........

What you have sounds like an oblighted ovum. Sac there but no heart beat. Most likely your body was is getting ready to spontaneously abort. maybe a chromosomal abnormality perhaps. You are probably as far along as you say, but the baby and sac all probably stopped growing so it appears to be 5 weeks. If they have seen no heart beat yet, there probably won't be one there next time you go in. Sorry for your loss but you will miscarry eventually.

Im sorry sweetie the same thing happened to me and it ended up that the baby just didnt grow, so it was considered a miscarriage. I dont think your body could absorb a pregnancy. I have hope that maybe its a second pregnancy but that hope is very slim im sorry. I do hope that this helps you. But considering you didnt miscarry the baby yet, it is possible that its a molar pregnancy which is what mine turned out to be and I had to have a D&C. It can be deavistating, it was for me. But there is always hope.

Try to contain your concern to the current pregnancy...telling you that you 'absorbed' a baby is kinda strange...so leave that to what it is...it isnt. As far as this pregnancy whatever your stage...seems too early to tell you such things again without real good back up on the part of the doctor with only an ultrasound.
Please switch doctors if you can immediately and hope for a more informative and practical view on your current situation. Peace.

first of all i would try not to worry myself to death...yes your body can absorb pregnancies and yes it is possible the pregnancy isnt viable...if this is the case then your body will naturally miscarry at some point of course the pills will speed up the process...i believe the heart beat starts at 3 weeks...so time will tell if the pregnancy wasnt meant to be then i guess you wont be able to carry out the pregnancy...my friend had a pregnancy that wasnt viable she started to miscarry first thats how she found out

The same exact thing happened to me and come to find out there was a chromosome missing so the pregnancy stopped developing all together and there was no heart beat, a week later I began to bleed and had to have a D&C.
I wish you the best, and pray that your doctor is wrong!!

it sounds like the egg stopped developing. the same thing happened to my best friend. they did several ultrasounds and also took blood a few times to check her hormone levels and they weren't going up like they would if the fetus was developing correctly. they told her she had a miscarriage but her body didn't expell the fetus and she ended up having a d&c.
i hope everything works out ok for you, but if it is a miscarriage just remember it was for a good reason and it will make you a stronger person. good luck!!
