I wonder to myself: is the UK media reflecting public interest in the litvinenko case? Or just whipping up a storm for the sake of it?

Russia's 3 main television channels are reporting on our speculation about the death of former Russian intelligence officer, Alexander Litvinenko, from radiation poisoning.

"Panic in London" - state TV Rossiya
"Britain is on the brink of panic" - state TV Channel 1

Is this true? Are we this scared? Or is it the news merely full of hysteria about tiny traces of radiation found in planes and buildings?

Don't get me wrong: the findings are very important. This is tragic and God knows what political ramifications there are, whoever may have been responsible.

There are, however, no real implications for the UK public. Even the poisoner's chances of getting some form of cancer have only increased by a fraction of a percent. Unlike the unfortunate Litvinenko, who ingested a huge amount.

Anybody closely involved with this investigation needs to be careful. Anybody else doesn't need to worry about a thing. Calling 30,000 BA passengers is absurd.

Media needs to keep trying to get people in hysteria to sell papers, keep viewers etc. I think this is in fact a very big story, however I think it takes a hell of alot to 'rock' a big city such as London. People are too busy, and living in the fast lane, to be too perturbed by anything that doesnt effect their immediate future/life.

I don't see where there is a panic, it's just another news item to most Brits to be dismissed along with the other junk. But I do believe it will lead to more draconian laws that far from being to deter terrorists will be used to subdue the general public and bring them under martial law.

This Publicity stunt for Casino Royale has got out of control... Someone please tell the media to Can-it - and show us some real news... usually when this sort of cobblers story keeps getting airtime there is usually something else going on that the powers that be dont want you to be told about...

I would be more concerned with the risk to health from all that rotting sushi in Itsu's boarded up premises. On second thoughts though, if there was enough Polonium 210 in there, the fish would be well cooked by now!

I live in London and no one is in a panic about this. I think the interest is because it is very mysterious and like something out of a Bond film.

No we are not panicking...plus we are not all like sheep therefore we don't automatically blame Putin...we will just wait and see after all the proper investigations have taken place.

You know how the media hypes thing up to sell their publications. They are terrible so, don't worry about it unless the government tells you that you have something to worry about.
