Usually when they are around 10-12 months it's fine to switch over to a forward facing carseat.

The recommendations are 1 and 20 lbs, both of those requirements must be met before you go forward facing as far as height i don't know check the requirements of the seat you plan to purchase, there may be a maximum height but i don't know if there is a minumum. I have a convertable seat one that goes backwards then when they are 1 years old and 20lbs i can turn it around and use it forward facing. Evenflo and Graco make great seats. You can find them at Target or Walmart.

A child should be at least 20 lbs. Height is not a factor in how long to keep a child rear facing. Most states also require the child to be 1 year old. You would need to check your state because each state has different standards. I am a certified Child Passanger Safety Tech for the state of WI.

The longer a child stays rear facing, the safer! ALWAYS!

Most DOT safety standards are 1 yr old 20lbs+. However if your baby is getting to big for the infant seat and can hold their head up and sit with support, then younger is fine. On average most parents move babies from infant seat to regular carseat at around 8mos old. It's best to check with your local DOT and police force to find out what your area's requirements are, because you could be in a world of hurt if you do it too soon.

Keep them facing back as LONG AS YOU CAN! Some seats go up to 35 pounds facing back. It is the absolute safest way for them to travel.

when you purchase an up right car seat it will tell you the age requirement and the weight for facing forward

newborns start out in rear facing car seat, when they are 20lbs, you can switch to a up right forward facing. Then when they are 40lbs, switch to a booster seat, and they have to stay with the booster seat until they are 80lbs, or until 8 year of age.

It will defer per state..My 7 month old is 16lbs. and 3 feet tall..I had no choice...So you will in the end make the decision if it is right for your child.
