Melatonin does not MAKE you sleep, it helps your body prepare to sleep and get better quality sleep. Consequently, I doubt that it is the cause of your daytime grogginess. However, I should ask...Is the product you are taking ONLY melatonin or does it have any additives. I once knew a woman who complained of grogginess from melatonin. When I asked her about the product, it also had valerian root in it. Valerian root definitely can have a grogginess after effect. When she switched over to pure melatonin, her problem went away. But if you are taking the pure melatonin, I don't think that is the cause of your problem.

I take Melatonin frequently, and I find that it helps me get to sleep, but I wake up after a few hours not tired.. Valerian works for me, and I don't feel any sort of side effects. Sleepy Time Extra tea has Valerian, and I find the warm tea plus the valerian really works. However there are pills, too... Good luck.. and sweet dreams!!!

It could be the Melatonin, but it's kind of doubtful.
Have you been checked for sleep apnea? Basically this is where you quit breathing for short periods during your sleep cycle. It has the effect of keeping you from entering full REM sleep. So... even though you sleep through the night you might not be enjoying the full restorative effects of a good night's sleep.

I've taken melatonin for 2-3 yrs. Never had any issues with grogginess. Are you getting enough sleep. I would doubt that your being tired is related to melatonin.

Might try a smaller dose like 1 mg. Also try taking tylenol pm with the melatonin about 30 minutes before you retire. My doctor put me on to this. I sleep like a baby. Walmart makes their own version of tylenol pm. It's cheaper.

I think so. I've been taking it myself to go to sleep while travelling overseas and I just have a hard time waking up and then spend the rest of the day yawning.

The drug helps to relax you it is natural but if you don't make enough of it , it can cause problems...lower libido, hard time going to sleep etc....

yes it is, try lowering the dosage to 1mg, they may be too strong for you, dosage is usually based on an average person weighing 150lbs.
