I have an old Graco jogging stroller, but it's not comfy enough to push it and jog at the same time. Doesn't there exist a jogging stroller that is designed to run with? That is, one that can be steered without pressing down and that has adjustable handle positions? Or is running with a baby really not a realistic idea, and any exercise I get is going to be marginal anyways?

I just trained for the Route66 marathon, using a jogging stroller about 1/2 the time. The swivel wheel ones are not recommended for running - they're honestly glorified mall strollers. The small wheel provides very little shock absorption, and the baby is jostled the entire time. I have a babyjogger and a Jeep jogger by Kolcraft, and I love them both. You still have to push down to steer, but it wasn't as difficult as the graco (I tested both). Mine have adjustable handles and the hand-brake and strap. The Jeep one has an onboard speaker system you can play music through for the baby (worked great!!).

The longest I've taken him was 8 miles. After that, the bumping got to be a bit much. However, he did great during the first miles. He's 16 months old - we've been running and training with him for over a year. I would simply recommend sticking with a solid front wheel (not a swivel), and mapping out a course with fewer turns. That's what we eventually did. There are several online route finders (gmap-pedometer is a great one) that will help you find a route.

BTW - running with the stroller is much harder work - so even if you don't feel like you're running as hard - you're getting a great workout. I could tell a huge difference between running with the stroller and without.

I have noticed that when I recline the seat in the stroller, it makes it alot easier to push down the handle to turn the stroller. But, I have a double jogging stroller so it might be alittle different. Just give it a try see if it works for you!
Hope this helps.

Some jogging strollers have swiveling wheels in the front so you don't have to tip it up and turn it. Here's one:
