Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) is base on the demands of your engine at start up in cold weather. Your engine oil can become a thick as syrup and will cause the starter to draw more amps. Anything above 650 will be good enough for starting your car in the coldest temps. Make sure to use thinner oil during the winter (5W30) it will help prolong the life of you starter and battery.

Visit your local auto parts store. They will tell you what GM recommends for your Pontiac. You can always upgrade to a higher CCA battery if one is available to fit your car.

600 CCA is usually average.

I like bigger batteries, I think those in the 800's are the best, around 825. You probably only have the six cyclinder but the extra is worth it if you are in a cold climate.
