Go to a store that sells Christmas lights and buy a package of Christmas light 'hangers' (they're little squares, sticky on one side, with a small prong which will hold the Christmas lights cord on the other). I've used these before, and they work well. Make sure you get a kind that will not leave residue on your nice desk. Merry Christmas!

I had the same problem today...I got the 3M hooks and placed them on the corners and one in the middle. My lights and garland look beautious! I can keep the hooks there to put up Valentine deco in Feb and St. Patty's day deco in March. Or just remove them.

get some inexpensive xmas stocking holders (the kind you just set on the mantle to hold stockings...no nails or tacks required)....and use those to hold the lights up

You can always use thin twine and/or braid the lights with wired faux evergreen.
