"The city's fire chief announced his retirement Friday amid a furor over a black firefighter's claim that he suffered racial discrimination when his spaghetti was spiked with dog food."
I really don't know what to think of this, I'd appreciate your all's thoughts.

Also, do you think this would have happened if the chief was black, and the man w/ the spagetti was white?

Yes, over sensitivity. Thanks ACLU
To your second question, of course the case would be non-existent.

I think it was over sensitivity. I think it was just co workers pulling a prank and being jerks as co workers have been known to do. I think that it is wrong that the city gave that firefighter 2.7 million dollars for being embarrassed over eating dog food. I think that is way way too easy for black people to cry racism when something they dont like happens. I think that the citys fire chief should not have stepped down for that reason. I think that the firefighter who ate the dog food shouldnt have taken it so far. It wasnt racism, it was just a prank that someone couldnt handle.

It may not have been racism. However, it could also have been based on previous actions or statements made by the other firemen.
In either case, it was in really bad taste (no pun intended) and was probably hazing; which is illegal in most places where testosterone reigns supreme.
By the way; yes they do show Eminem's videos on BET. Justin Timeberlake's too.

From what I understand those guys were always messing around with each other, pulling all kinds of pranks. I believe that it's another case of someone can dish it out but they can't take it. Also a bit of racial grandstanding........why?.........because he can and so many have gotten away with it. I don't care about color, but put a white guy in the same position and we'd never hear about it.

Sounds like a lousy bad prank. I mean we put tacks on teachers chairs. Threw spit wads at the teacher. We've pulled pranks on bosses and such, just in the name of fun where no racial thing was even considered. Bad taste, poor sense of humor.....ya....racist, no. Fortunatly they didn't see it that way either. Not every dumb move has a racial undertone. I could spend all day being "offended" if I wanted to in one way or another.

After reading the article I feel it is oversensitivety. If this type of thing, hazing, only happened to him or black members of the force, he's right. At the end of the article there are pictures of the man being sued participating in hazing himself, which shows me that it is due to something other than race.

I don't see that as racism and I'm black. I read the article waiting for the "punch line". I don't play the race card and I never will because I believe in a higher power. Whatever I get is ordained by God and what I do get is not meant for me to have.

I don't think it would have mattered whether the firefighter was black, white or purple. Fireman tend to be crude characters that pull extreme practical jokes of each other all the time.

I'm not at liberty to make a statement without actually being there. The same rule applies to nearly all other supposed racist situations.
However, if the Klan or Nazis are involved, I tend to just assume.

I don't see how this is racist. It was obviously a bad decision of the chiefs part and what he did was wrong. But I don't see any indication that what he did was racially motivated.

its good for blacks and other groups to be able to claim racism becuz it keeps the handout policies and policies of protection alive for the democrats and keeps them and losers like al sharpton and other black leaders in business proffiting off the myth of black suffering.
also it enhances white peoples image as a group not needing special race based protection makes whites look better
