Why are glasses not considered "nerdy" anymore?

Years ago, glasses were considered the ultimate thing for a nerd.

Now, glasses are not nerdy at all and they have come out with very fashionable glasses' styles and a lot of celebrities sport glasses.

I think a lot of them look cool these days!

Its because 'back in the day' there were pretty much one style of frames and often those wearing glasses were found to have nerdy jobs and hobbies and were also well educated (learning and like for school = nerd). Now a days, so many people have glasses and you can get so many various frames, its not a big deal to see someone with glasses.

Because they are designed very well nowadays.. and everyone wears glasses... my cousin is so fashionable and she wears funky glasses all the time... different designs and colors.. she's been wearing glasses all her life so she knows who to work them I guess.. she wants to design them someday too! No one ever thought her glasses were nerdy.. ever..!


I always take her advice when shopping for sunglasses. I guess it's just a cool trend. And they don't have to look nerdy.. they look cool or even hot!

Because fashion changes with time, years ago they were a sign of "dorks" or "nerds" but now a days glasses are made to fit each and everykind of face shapes, and have sifferent styles for faces too, for example colored glasses...and so on, Glasses can still be nerdy depending on how you wear them , thant's why now people take care of looking for the perfect glasses that fin them

Maybe it's because there are more people now with less than 20/20 vision as there were years ago. We're going blind!

lol, not really. They have made glasses be more lightweight and have different shapes to fit peoples faces more than they did years ago. Lets face it, years ago, the only pair you would be able to find are clunky box frames which looked ridiculous.

Maybe they were stereotyped as nerdy because people who wore them had worsening vision because they were staring at the computer screen. Nowadays, everybody gets on the computer on a daily basis so how can you consider everybody nerdy?

Glasses automatically make you think of nerds which are smart/educated people, and smart people usually have money and a good job, hence glasses are cool because you are automatically sterotyped as having loot! So, of course I bought some really cute Steve Maddens-I have terrible vision, so I'm pretty excited about glasses being cool.

Because people are finding ways to make themselves look cool, while stilll wearing glasses...No one looks nerdy in glasses, but some people look bad...

well since they make such stylish ones these days they r more popular, and also more people need them .for instance i am the only one in my family that doesn't need glasses. and high end fashion designers cam out with glasses and fashionable people would lie to have them so that they have the latest thing. i dunno basically just because there are much nicer styles that fit peoples faces better and compliment their features

of course, lot of people look good with glasses, some even look better with them than without actually. but then again there are still a lot of people nowadays who refuse to wear em because they think it makes them look stupid. i wear glasses myelf, and i like the way they look on me, but i have to admit sometimes its a hassle, such as fog and wiping it all the time, etc.

i think the reason they are not "nerdy" anymore is because they have come out with many new slique and beautiful designs. Now they are supposedly in style, and even sunglasses are the new accessory.
