Hello, me and my girlfriend have just started to have sex. we dont want to have a family yet. and she has started to take the pill. but she started 5 days after the "day" she was supossed to start. my question is, even if she has been taking them regulary are we in risk of pregnancy? do they only work if taken from the first day of her period? or are we on a safe path?
please help.

Actually you are supposed to take them the day after the period, or there is the extreme risk of pregnancy. They are to be taken everyday at the same time. I hate to see people dreading pregnancy but wont stop the cause of it, I know it is hard but its even harder having a child to take care of. Always always use a condom, make sure you take the pill, and maybe consider a more comfortable contraceptive.

My Gyn said that some forms of pills can be started at any time. The only problem is that it can create irregular bleeding throughout the month. Their are pills now that taken properly can shorten the actual period. As long as she takes them daily she is safe. DRs just want you to start them around your period to keep your same cycle and not to interfere with it.

If she was taking the pill for several days before ya'll started sex, they should be working by now. Just please realize that pills are not 100% effective. Lots of women get pregnant on the pill. So use condoms to protect you both. Or marry the girl and make your parents some grandkids. But please realize the pill does fail. I have several friends that have conceived while on the pill.

My pills say right on them that it takes about a month for them to start working correctly. If she continues to take the pills correctly, her body and period will adjust to the pills but I would suggest using a condom to make sure for awhile.
