There is two types of wireless internet services - one that is "local" where you install a wireless router and it has a radius of say 50'. You can use this as well on hotspots - such as the ones found at Starbucks or various airports. Installing a wireless router is easy and inexpensive -- look for a 802.11b/g router.

Make sure that your laptop has support for 802.11b/g - either built in, or get a compact flash or usb 802.11b/g card (check the linksys web site).

The other alternative is to subscribe to a wireless broadband plan from a wireless carrier (such as verizon) -- you pay a fixed monthly fee for wireless access -- check out http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=2407 for more info

Good luck

if your computer is wireless you can do this without any equipment...
look in your system tray (thing with the time) for an icon with one computer>double-click it>click view wireless networks>if you see nothing try clicking refresh network list>if something comes up check if there is a little lock symbol on it>if not click connect and follow steps (if there is a lock it is encrypted and you need a code)
