If the light is still on, no, I doubt you're imagining things.
But if the light is off, then unless you live in a hostel or with lots of other people, probably.
Night vision is somewhat patchy, especially when we first wake up. But that old brain it just keeps on working. And brains just hate the unknown, so it tries its damnest to make sense of the shadows and patterns your newly awakened eyes can just about make out.
If you were in the jungle, maybe you'd see elephants. But as you're (presumably) in a room in a house your brain says, no that'd be silly, and makes the patterns fit into something you're more likely to see in a room in a house - a person (or people).
So providing these 'people' have never spoken to you, harmed you, or done anything else I suggest you just say 'oh, bu**er off' and go back to sleep.

I think the answer might have to do with 'where your room is situated.' If you live in a railway station, then the chances are no, it has nothing to do with your imagination.
On the other hand, if you live in a field miles from anywhere, then yes, your imagination is working up a storm and needs retuning.
If the second is the true situation, then suggest you pay a visit to your nearest electrical retailer for re-tuning and maybe some gently ETC provided by the staff in white coats.

My gr8 gran once woke up and for a full 30sec saw 2 men in ancient scottish dress fighting complete with swords, tunics and leggings, accurate for the period. Strangely enough on that site - the north inch - a battle to the death had occurred between Clan Chattan and Clan Kay.
At the time, Hal O' the Wynd (lover of the fair maid o' Perth) asked some of the spectators at the battle 'Did ye see that'?
'naw' they said, 'its just an auld wife asleep on her chair, a figment of your imagination-now get back and finish the fight!'

You need to ask yourself are you scared when you waken up and see them. If there really were people in your room when you woke up and you did not expect them to be there then you would be really scared. If you are not scared then you know sub-consciously that they are not real. It may be that you have a very active imagination when you are sleeping and on wakening you are carrying over your dreams into your semi-conscious state.

I often go out to the pub and then wake up in a strange place. This could be a similar problem to yours. Does that happen to you too?

It sounds like your imagination. If you wake up suddenly, your mind can still be dreaming, so you can briefly see things that aren't there.
(I'm assuming you live on your own, and you're not seeing other roommates/family members!)

You could have the ability to see spirits if you do not know these "people" or they do not speak to you. If this is your imagination then you certainly have a good imagination.

no. its just that you past out through having to much to drink and the party is still going on when you become consciouse. seriously. if what you say is true, and i have no cos to doubt you, then i would suggest you have it investigated...phone your nearest television station and ask them if they can put you in touch with the nearest paranormal investigators.
