It's in the genes. Curly hair has a different internal structure that causes bends, on the insides of the bends the hairs structural bonds are tighter, outside are looser, therefore curls form. Due to this structure curly hair tends to lose moisture quicker too, thats why it tends to be dry and frizzy.

Hair is curly or straight depending on the shape of the hair shaft. When a person has curly hair, the shaft is relatively flat; when the hair is straight, the hair shaft is round. A good way to think about this is to imagine a plastic soda straw. When it's round, it can't bend easily; however, if you flatten it, you can curl it all you want! Lastly - a person with "wavy" hair has some of each kind of hair.

Curly hair generally comes from the shaft of the hair being flat. The flatter it is, the curlier. By the same token, if the shaft is round, this brings on the straight hair.

Whether one has curly or straight hair depends on the root structure of the hair. Also a hereditary factor comes into it.

Straight hair is round in diameter whereas curly is oval. Then obviously the 'flatter' the oval is the curlier the hair.

Sulphide bonds within the hair. People with curly hair have more of these bonds than people with straight hair.

The answers about curly hair being ovoid are incorrect... Asian ppl have ovoid hair, and I've yet to see a kinky-curly haired Asian.

hi. i saw your other question and would've emailed you with it, but couldn't. the one about the hiccups? well i wanted to tell you the answer you picked as best's cure for hiccups works very, very well. i've tried it. but to tell you the truth, do not drink water. it doesn't help. it simply runs down through your throat and has no effect. i just wanted to tell you that if the lemon juice doesn't work, just try holding your breath (or without trying to be disgusting burping) by doing this it helps to try to gain control of your diaphragm. good luck with it.
PS. i don't expect best answer for this question. just thought you'd like a little extra information. = ]
