I've chosen the song, Shadowland, but I have no idea on what part I should sing. My director asks that we do 16 bars. Which should I do?

(I'm at work, so I can't listen to the song, but this is pretty general audition song advice.)

Instead of adhering strictly to 16 bars, choose about one minute of music that you think you can sing the best. (The director at an audition won't see the sheet music, so they won't know if it's 16 bars or not; 16 bars is an arbitrary number to make sure directors don't have to sit through one 4 minute song after another.)

If you think you sound great on that one big ending, do the last verse or so. If you think the middle is the best, but to stop right before the end would be awkward, start at your designated spot and wait for them to tell you to stop. If you've gone too long they won't be shy about telling you.

In general, avoid any sections where there are signficant instrumental breaks between your singing; it will distract you and create awkward 'dead' moments in your audition.

I personally like this song (from what I remember of it). Break a leg at your audition!
