Band sizes start at 28 (not just 30!) in some hard to find shops, and I think I have also heard of 26, but this would most likely be worn by anorexics.
Cup sizes go from AAA (usually only in training bras) up to Q (not sure for which band size though), and the largest cup size for a 28 is a G which is the equivalent to a 34D. Also you can't just measure under the breasts and get their band size. You add 3 inches if it's 27 and below and 5 inches if it's 28 and above. So if a woman measures 29 inches under her breast, + 5" then she would be a 34. Measure over the breasts loosely while having taken a deep breath, and let's say she measures 36... you subtract the two. 36-34=2. 2 is a B cup, so she would wear a 34B. 1 in difference=A, 2=B, 3=C and so on.
Gee...I must be an alien since some of the people on here are suggesting that band sizes only start at 32. Who wants to measure my back and be shocked? (And I'm not anorexic.)

OK if we are talking Xmas presents you have a problem. Women need to be measured properly to get the correct size. Its the measurement round the ribs, then add so many inches which gives you the basic 32,34 etc. Then the number of inches larger than this which gives the cup size. So immediately you have the problem that if a girl measures at 33, do you go with 32 or 34. So.. you will find the number on the label of her existing bras if you offer to do the laundry. Allowing for variation in makes, you will be reasonably OK as long as she isnt one of the many women wearing the wrong size! If you want to go down the sexy undies for Xmas route, I suggest you find out her dress size and buy her a lovely nightie. These are often sized in double sizes eg 12-14 so its not nearly as critical.

To get a good fit you need to know the measurement of the woman's rib cage (e.g. 30, 32, 34, etc) and her cup size, which depends on the size of the actual breast and is expressed in letters from AA (very small) to J (the largest generally available in shops, bigger than this and you have to go specially made!).
If you're thinking of getting someone a bra, the fit is still a bit of a gamble even if you know the size, much like shoes different styles from different shops fit different women.

Yes there are alot! bra sizes range from 32 A to about 52 K! It all depends on the woman's size and body shape! A= the cup size or how big each breast is! the higher the letter the bigger the cup! K= Very Very Huge! the number is the size around the rib cage! 32= very small to 51= being very large!

Ask your wife or girlfreind about the mystery of the bra.
They are sized by two different measurements
1. Cup Size - size of actual breast is measured in sizes AA to E or more..AA, A, B, etc.. being the smallest to E and above the largest.
2. The width of the body where the bra sits is the next measurment starts at 32 for petite people and as the numbers go up the wider the body is.
eg. 32D
Tip: if you want to buy your lady underwear for Christmas - look in her underwear drawer for Bra Size - it is something specific..women only wear one Bra size usually.

The Number means the size around the body, the Letter is the cup size. So a 30/32 = fairly slim 40+ = rather large extra.
A = basically flat, E/F or higher = big da mn gazoongas!!!!!
