So, apparently the "rap" music icons are mad at Oprah Winfrey because she isnt black enough. They are using racial slurs to call her out because she is just, in their eyes, pandering to the "white, middle class woman".
So, is the rest of society to believe that the rap icons, who preach death and violence, abuse of women, drugs, alcohol, crime and general racist appathy is what is good for America and the world?
I am in no way defending Oprah, heck... I dont even watch her show. But, I would say she is doing much more for the black community then all for the rap "stars" combined.
Can someone explain to me how anyone could even fathom siding with the gangsters?

Squirl, you need to read the papers and watch the news.. It was todays head lines that they were calling her out... I cant and wont include the details because its all bad. Also.... No... I am not trying to defend her... as I said, I dont even watch her. I just find it to be amazing that the most racist remarks see to be flung at members of the black community by the black community... get a clue, little girl.

I completely agree with you. I think that Opera is doing more than many to help the integration of the races. Bill Cosby has also been under fire lately. But he told the balxk community to stop their whinning about racial inequality and get up and take advantage of their opportunities. He told them that they are causing more problems by whining. Now they are all mad at him for saying that. But I think that it is very true. I live in a part of the country where there are not many black people, but those who are, I don't believe are discriminated like they are being told they are. Also I think that they should drop the African-American crap and we should all just be Americian. I think titles like African_American and hispanic-American and Latino_American etc.. really do nothing more than segergate us. Let's all just be Americans and start getting along.
I agree with you about her doing more positive. She is a great example of the American dream. She was raised in a very poor family, she had a rough childhood, and then it seems like the first part of her adult years were rough too. But look at her now. She didn't sit around whining about how tough her life was, she stood up and made something of herself. She is the richest woman in America. And now she helps those who are less fortunate. Paticularly those who don't have the same opportunities that she has. She has gone to other nations and built schools so that other girls can be educated and make something of themselves. I really think that she understands that money doesnot always make poverty go away, that education does. I think that every American and not just Blacks can learn a lot fomr her example. She grew up in a time when there really was racism and look at her now.

Being a black woman myself, I really haven't seen Oprah do that much for the black community but she did step up and help the Katrina Victims. Personally, I love Oprah and her business savy.
She's a smart, intellingent, strong black woman.
Also, Kanye West was on her show. I don't know why the other rappers feel offended. BTW - The gangsta rappers were back in the late 80's early 90's - this is the bling bling generation. Riding cars with 24 inch rims and calling women whores. There's nothing gangsta about that. BUT I get your point.
Rap music has a negative image but all of its not bad. Why would Oprah want to have a rapper performing on her show saying Ahhhhh Skeet Skeet Skeet and sweat drop down my balls? LOL Thats not Oprah's image.

The truth is that Oprah DOES pander to "white, middle class women". (as well as "Black, middle class women). They love her. The did NOT love her when she lost a great deal of weight several years ago. They love her because she is real. They love her because they have seen her at her worse (without makeup) and at her best (lovely wardrobe).
Oprah is Black. No one doubts that. She is also a philanthropist, a volunteer, a contributor of millions of dollars to many many organizations, colleges, and individuals, and is basically a very like able woman.
I don't think Oprah as at all concerned with "rap"music icons, and she should not be.
"Rap" music icons make millions. They don't need Oprah.
Your last question is simple to answer.
People have sided with "gangsters" for centuries. A "Black" gang is hardly much different than a "white" gang.

Rap has been marketed to our kids as something cool. The kids are growing up thinking that it's normal. I love going to the mall and telling kids that their pants are falling down just as one would tell someone their shoes are untied.
The sad fact is, kids grow up speaking ebonics because they either learned it from their friends and family, or they are desparate to fit in and some dork with a stocking cap, shorts around his ankles and a shiney necklace says it's cool (for rizzle). As the kids grow up, they are going to see their options limited. Telemarketing is a very low end job, but they won't even be able to do that, "Yo, check it, can I axe you a question bout your interest in throwing down some Benjamins to buy a dope *** vaccum cleaner, word?". The only thing left to do is cry descrimination an oppression when they can't earn money in the legitmate business world.
I don't see the link between rap and Opra, but I agree that she has done a good job financially and showed others that one can be successful ethically no matter what your skin color is. I would say the same about Cosby.

First off, half of those celebrities are not even "gangsters". They just portray that image because, for some reason, it's popular and they think it's what their fans like to see.
I guess they feel that Oprah caters to a population that they don't relate to: middle/upper class women who have led lives completely opposite from themselves. Just take a look at "O" Magazine - it's clear who she markets to. Many minorities feels that she's a sell-out because she seems to cater to a different socio-economic population.
I don't agree with either Oprah or the rappers. But they do have their own unique ways of earning money, lots of it, so they must be doing something "right"... I guess.

Appathy is not a word. Apathy is a word but I don't think it works in that sentence. You are using the word pandering incorectly.
I haven't heard about rappers "calling her out" although I'm not surprised. I don't know why people like gang members so much.
BTW, It sounds like you'r defending Oprah.

Wow, thats a really good post. I think theres a big problem with race relations today, and I think those who want to stay seperate, by bashing Oprah for being "too white", as if its some sort of an insult, are doing no good for their own race. Good post

needless to say. All those subconscious racism learn practice black human beings racist against themselves. an exceedingly destructive attitude in the direction of one's own team as adversarial to a distinctive continues to be racism. it particularly is not often a secret how that occurs-- you soak up the story of the dominant way of existence.
