Going for a wee trip there next week.
Looking for price comparisons for food and drink v's British pounds (or US dollars). Ive noticed that beer (let's face it, it's an important sustenance) is about £5... (www.pintprice.com). What about food, travel etc. And what's the food like? No Google pastes please - personal experience only.
Many thanks.

As an American I thought it was a bit expensive 5 years ago. With the dollar having fallen 35% since then it would be painful now. If you are using the relatively strong GBP it should not seem excessively pricey.

I stayed at the Hotel Liefur Eiriksson, ~$70,which was conveniently located across from the statue of Lief Erikson and the church with the enormous pipe organ. It was convenient to walk most places and the hotel arranged the excursions for me. I went on the geyser and glacier tour and a failed aurora watching tour. The bizarre geology would make a good science fiction movie setting.

The clubs were not too far and still interesting to watch though I am way past the age to participate. After leaving a club at about 2AM my last night there I saw many people looking up and saw my first and a very spectacular aurora display.

The reindeer and puffin dinner was way too expensive for me at $80. I enjoy trying exotic dishes but had to pass on this. The food at the mall, with the Hard Rock Cafe, was quite reasonable, about the same as Netherlands and Belgium were I was working at the time.

I was only there for 3 days at the end of November, early December 5 years ago. The clouds got lighter at about 10AM and started getting dimmer at 3PM. It was cool and drizzled a bit but not really cold. Sorry my info is so old and the currency exchange rates have been so volatile.

It was definately worth the trip.

It's the most expensive country I have visited, and I've been to 40 countries.
