"there is no real proof although some archaeologists believe they have found a site in turkey that might be troy, wasn't it just a story by homer"

Yes, there is very good proof; the city itself. Heinrich Schliemann first excavated it in 1870, followed by Wilhelm Doerpfeld. The city exists in almost the precise location Homer said it was, and it was destroyed around the time Homer gave.

Archaeology in Schliemann's day wasn't too concerned with stratigraphy or ceramic sequencing, but much work has been done since. Right now, seven distinct levels of occupation have been identified, including the one destroyed by the Mycenaean invasion.

The horse story is a tad doubtful, but there is an alternative theory I like. It's possible that during the siege an earthquake destroyed the walls of Troy. There is good evidence the level of Troy that Homer spoke of was destroyed by an earthquake. The Mycenaean's, thankful for their good fortune, left an offering to Poseidon, the god of earthquakes (among other things). They chose to honor him with a great statue of a horse, as Poseidon was also the god of horses.

Troy is also referred to as Illios, which is why Homer's epic is called the Illiad.

Hard to say, some say "yes" some say "no" as is the case with much of ancient history. The only "proof" we have of the fall of Troy is from Homer's "Iliad" which tells of Achilles taking down the city. Some people believe that archeologists found the lost city of Troy. It is really one of those "What do you believe questions?"

Yes, there was a Troy, yes it did fall. As for the rest? Well, fact doesn't read as well as fiction, and Homer wrote fabulous fiction wrapped in actual fact.

Go the link posted below and put Troy into the search engine...you'll find the truth. Great question!

Plus one of the reasons we think that the site that was discovered was indeed Troy was that there are ruins of the city there that show signs of being burnt down around the same time when the Trojan War is supposed to have happened.

Yes it did. Was it the Greeks? maybe. The dig at the Troy site has found 7 cities.

Many people thought that Troy was a fictional place, until recently scientists and archaelogists discovered proof that Troy really did exist.
