I'm not sure about a male guppy and a female platy, but I have seen "muppies" and "gollies" sold at stores. These fish are a cross between guppies and mollies.

If it can happen with those two fish, I imagine it is possible for it to happen with a guppy and a platy.

And for the record, male guppies are the most, uh, "frisky" fish you'll find. If you have several males in a tank and no females, it's not uncommon to see sexual activity between all the males.

Nope, they are both livebearers, but they are different species. The male may show interest in the female simply due to hormones, but they would not be able to produce viable babies.

If you want some babies, get a few female guppies or a male platy :)

the platty wouldn't let the guppy near her.

He might try hard, but it just won't happen. It's the wrong genetic key to fertilize the eggs.
