Does waxing in any way affect silver paint on a vehicle more than other paint colors?

SIlver and red paints seem to be more prone to fading and oxidation. Whether they have a clearcoat or not also affects this. Oxidation makes the paint turn into powdery stuff that can rub off and reduces gloss.

Waxing is a great way of preventing fading/oxidation. If paint is already dull, use a mild polish like Meguiar's ScratchX or 3M Fine Cut Compound before you wax. As far as wax is concerned, S100 carnauba wax is awesome on silver cars. They are usually sold at Harley-Davidson dealers.

Read the label on the wax or polish you purchase. Normally, today's vehicles are all clear coated so you're not actually waxing the color. Wax is a protectant for your vehicle's finish. Just follow the directions on the container.
