So caught up in celebrities and what they do? lol Today I sat watching the news, and then, the news anchor on our local station, who has to be in his early 60's...a seasoned veteran in the "news anchor business" says that the next thing that he will discuss when the commmercial break was over, was, does Britnney Spears have an allergy to panties, and why she doesn't wear them! What the hell? I expect to hear that maybe from one of the Gossip columnists on E!, or to read about it in the MSN Gossip column or MTV news...but hearing this older professional man discussing Britnney Spears panties, or lack thereof, was kind of surprising. I know he was just doing his job of course....but I guess I just hadn't realized how caught up everyone is in celebrity lifestyles. I'm as guilty as the next person, because I read the gossip columns and watch the celeb news too. For those of you that can admit you're the same way...what's so fascinating about celebrities?

I don't know why but it drives me crazy. I don't care that Paris, Lindsey and Brittney don't wear panties. I don't care what kind of flowers were on the tables at TomKat's wedding. I don't care who's the father of Anna Nicole's baby. In five years or less most of these people simply WON'T MATTER!
But, for those of you who are interested...
1. My Mom came to visit me for Christmas. The event was not covered by local media.
2. I'm trying to choose an accent color in my bedroom...so far, Tangerine has the edge over Brick.
3. My husband and I continue to respect the demilitarized zone (the entry), while strategies over our respective territories (1st Floor, 2nd Floor). The U. N. has not sent observers to our home, but it is safe to say that the tastefully decorated upstairs would have enough Security Council votes to veto the Man-Den.

I admit I'll read about celebrities, who's marrying who, or divorcing who, what kinds of movies/TV shows they've done, who started in soaps, etc. But as far as Brittney's panties, I couldn't care less. Unfortunately, too many people are interested in too many mundane details of too many stupid people's lives. Just because a person has been given a large paycheck to do something in front of a camera doesn't mean they have good sense. Best example I can think of - Paris Hilton. She is not beautiful, she is not intelligent, she is not talented, yet the media follows her and people buy magazines that report everytime she belches. It's a shame to say it, but modern mankind more closely resembles a herd of cows than the future of the world; just lead them, and they will follow.

I love celebrity gossip. I love seeing "stars" without their make up and hair professionally done and realizing I look better than them. I love seeing them do stupid stuff and screwing up royally. I think I like seeing that no matter how hard they try to appear better than us, they aren't. I do find it insane when "real" news spends more time on TomKat than they do on all the other problems in the world, but I still can't get enough. I don't know what the fascination is for the rest of the world but that's it for me.

I honestly don't know. I really don't care for much of the scoop, but occasionally I like to "see" what is going on. Not panties or not, but pics of people, really anybody, doing stupid stuff, or how people dress. I like to people watch at the mall too. I'm guilty of being snoopy into people's lives, but celebrities are no better than someone in your local mall as far as I'm concerned.
Although it's always a fun conversation piece. :)
Good question, and I really can't answer it. :)

It is just a modern form of idolatry. People seem to "worship" celebrities because they wish they had the fame, fortune, fashion and friends that the celebs have (or at least appear to have).
It's hard not to get caught up in it, especially when as you said, even "News" programs often discuss them. But really, is it any worse than hearing about murders, arsons, wars and national disasters? At least Britney's underwear status (while frivolous and none of anyone's business) isn't about to cause an innocent person to die (I hope).
