It means your Engine Management System has detected a fault. Get it to a Fiat garage ASAP.

This is what the manufacturers call the "malfunction indicator lamp" or "MIL" for short. When the "Check Engine" light appears, it means that the onboard computer, otherwise known as the "Powertrain Control Module (PCM)", has detected a problem somewhere in the car and needs to be taken care of in order for the light to go off. Now for a Fiat, it'll be harder I think to find a shop that has a scan tool to communicate with your car, unless you take it back to the dealer ;)

You know what Fiat stands for - Fix it again Tony... Phone the RAC or the AA if your in one of them..... and Bluff it... usually if you get a bendable guy..he will fix it or tell you whats wrong with it - before you get ripped off by a Fiat mechanic.

it could be as simple as a new air filter as this will cut the airflow and over rich the engine if not get a qualified mechanic to look at it with his fault finder
